The National Organisation of Townswomen’s Guild was formed to serve as a common meeting ground for women irrespective of race, creed and party to enable them through study and the pursuit of educational, cultural and social activities to fulfil their responsibilities as citizens.

The Mountsorrel Townswomen’s Guild was formed in the Autumn of 1945 and is one of the oldest organisations in Mountsorrel. It is affiliated to the Leicestershire Federation of T.W. Guilds and to National Council. There are currently 43 members in the Guild and it meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Parish Rooms. It has a wide range of guest speakers, organise fund-raising events, outing and it also has a separate social studies group. New members are always welcome.

At the annual national conference, topical issues are discussed, these motions having been previously distributed to individual guilds for discussion. A delegate and an observer are invited to attend the conference to vote on behalf of their guild on these topics. (Recent topics have included: the position of asylum seekers; legalisation of cannabis; closure of post offices; gay rights and other pertinent issues). Subsequently we may urge her majesty’s government to take a particular action.
