The Women’s Running Network was founded in 1998 in Devon to inspire women of all ages to run for fun and fitness. It has just celebrated its 10th anniversary and now boasts more than 3,200 members and 130 individual groups throughout the country. Its aim is to provide all women, whatever their age, size or ability, the opportunity to run together to improve their health, fitness, confidence and safety.
Charnwood local, Nikki Love, is a Group Leader for the Women’s Running Network and she is keen to get women into their trainers and out into the fresh air. She said “Since starting these groups, I have met women in their 20’s through to women in their 60’s, and they are all looking for the same thing – they want to get fitter, have fun and meet other like minded women.”
For the cost of one month’s gym membership you can join the Women’s Running Network for a whole year. You’ll receive a WRN t-shirt, a quarterly newsletter, a membership card worth 10% discount at running shops, as well as a fully qualified and insured group leader.
Nikki has beginners running groups that meet at 11:15 – 12:00 every Wednesday and Friday at the car park entrance of Soar Valley Leisure Centre. Sessions cost £2.
