WHEELIE BINS
Charnwood Borough Council
have announced that they will be starting the new rubbish collection system
using 'Wheelie Bins' in Mountsorrel in January 2005.
The first stage will be the delivery of glass and textile boxes which contain a supply of green, red and black sacks and an Owner's
Manual. The Green Sack is for paper, newspapers, tin cans and plastic bottles,
the Red Sack for cardboard and the Green Box for glass bottles and clothing.
The black wheelies will be delivered shortly afterwards and then rubbish
collection will be on a two weekly cycle, alternating between rubbish one
week and recyclables the next. You don't need to put the bin out on the pavement
as the Council will collect from the edge of your property.
If you have any problems or can't manage the heavy wheelie bin ring Charnwood on 01509 634 563 or go to their website at www.charnwood.gov.uk

VANDALISM - THE COST TO RESIDENTS
Mountsorrel is experiencing many acts of mindless vandalism and the sad thing is that the damage is being done by local people.
Public property is being damaged. The Memorial Hall, The Library, the local Churches, play equipment on Halstead Road Playing Field, the new floodlights on Mountsorrel Cross are all being attacked. The expenses to repair and replace damaged items are considerable. The Parish Council, Borough Council and County Council are funded by money paid by householders so we are all bearing the cost. If it has to be spent on repairs caused by vandalism there is less available for useful projects.
Litter is everywhere. So much is left in the playing fields including broken glass bottles. The Parish Council has to have the litter and glass picked up every day for the safety of users of these areas. This is at another increased cost to the village.
The few irresponsible people spoil the village for the majority who are trying to make Mountsorrel a good place in which to live.
There is a need for everyone to be vigilant so that the offenders can be stopped. Please report promptly to the Police any acts of vandalism that you witness. If you know who the culprits are, tell the Police. The Police need help. Any information will be treated as confidential and does not have to be used in court.
Phone Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or leave a message for PC 543 Gavin Grey.
To use the Voice message service ring 0116 248 5675 and key in collar number 0543.
We must stop the vandalism now.
