Planning and Highways Committee

Mountsorrel Parish Council is consulted by Charnwood Borough Council on all planning applications received for the parish of Mountsorrel. Comments are made as to the suitability of the plans for the area and these are forwarded together with any items of local knowledge that may be useful. The Parish Council can accept the plans or object to them but does not have a vote on the outcome.

Councillors are also advised of plans for roads, changes to no waiting areas, bus stop locations and other matters involving highways. Any problems are reported such as potholes, missing street signs, blocked drains etc.

Cemetery, Conservation & Environment Committee

Parish Room.
This involves considering any requirements for maintenance of the Parish Room and improvements to the contents.

Common Land
Areas involved are The Green, The Peace Garden and Castle Hill. Upkeep, maintenance, and enhancements are the main concerns. The Christmas lighting is also dealt with under this heading.

Cemetery
Again, the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery is the primary function. Charges are set for Burials, erection of Memorials and other matters appertaining to cemeteries.

This Committee considers what improvements could be made to the environment in Mountsorrel. Since the village was bypassed, many improvements have been made but so much more needs to be done.  There is a long list of projects being considered which will take a few years to complete. These range from having attractive, sturdy litterbins to recreating a windmill on Broad Hill when it is eventually restored and handed back to the village. Recently the Committee has arranged for the installation and upkeep of the floral baskets through the centre of the village
