Castle Hill Mural

Charnwood Arts invites you to a free art activity at Mountsorrel library on Tuesday 16th February between 10am and 12 noon. You can come along at any time and contribute your ideas to the Castle Hill mural design. The theme of the mural is 'The Garden'. Artist Paul Gent will be there with ideas and materials to help you create your own idea of a perfect garden. We welcome families including kids,  mums, dads and grandparents as we want as many people as possible to have their say. All of your
ideas will be put together and the final designs for the wall will be painted up in March.
Jemma Bagley from Charnwood Arts says. "The Castle Hill wall at present is very austere looking and the project will transform it into a thing of beauty. We need the people of Mountsorrel to help us with the design and the theme is The Garden as the wall is the backdrop to the garden area of the Castle Hill flats." Contact Jemma Bagley on 01509 821035 or jemmab@charnwood-arts.org.uk for any further details.

New Play Equipment at Halstead Road Playing Fields

Mountsorrel Parish Council is fulfilling to its promise to update all three  of the village's Play Areas. The old play area on the Halstead Road Playing Fields is to be revamped with new equipment including  toddler swings and a multi play unit with towers and slides. The existing slide and swings will also get a fresh look with a good clean and a coat of paint. The other two play areas on the Memorial Playing Fields and on Loughborough Road have been updated in previous years.

The new play area is set to cost £65,000 with the Parish Council paying £55,000 and a SHIRE environmental improvement grant contribution of £10,000. Installation of the new play equipment is planned to start on 16th November and be finished before Christmas 2009. STOP PRESS - Installation is delayed because of the bad weather but will restart as soon as conditions allow.

Bus Timetables

A new Transport page has been added to the Directory giving details of the buses that run through the village. It also covers links to Coach and Train services and getting to East Midlands Airport.

Mountsorrel Youth Cafe

A group of villagers has formed a charity to promote a local Youth Cafe and have chosen the former Maltby Insurance Offices as a likely site. They held a packed meeting in the Memorial Hall on Thursday 3rd September 2009. Many residents were in favour but people living in adjacent properties raised strong objections on the basis of noise and anti-social behaviour. Several young people attended and spoke about the need for such a youth facility in the village. For more information visit their website on www.sycafe.org.

Recycling and Household Waste Site for Mountsorrel?

Leicestershire County Council is proposing to replace the recycling and household waste site in Sileby with a site on Granite Way, Mountsorrel. Cllr. Tony Kershaw, County Council Cabinet Member for Waste, said: "We want to boost recycling in Charnwood and make it easier for residents by replacing a cramped, outdated site with a state-of-the-art facility with excellent access. We would encourage as many residents as possible to go along to the roadshows and take the chance to pick up the latest information, speak to officers and ask any questions they may have."  More details on LCC website here

Charnwood Borough Council has now received a planning application for this Waste Site and residents can make comments on line or send in written comments. The Closing date for Comments is the 21/09/09 (but this may be extended). To access CBC Planning follow this link Waste Site
You can also post your comments on the Village Forum (Click on the link in the Left Hand Margin), or write to the Parish Council. Please copy any emails to the Parish Clerk (mountsorrel.pc@co-net.com).

New Memorial Hall

Revised plans for the New Memorial Hall have been approved by Charnwood Borough Council. There have been some slight amendments to the original plans that went on display in the Village, with the Youth Centre and the new Hall being combined into one building, which will be moved slightly further north, away from the apartments on the south side of the Hall. The new building will be built by the Mountsorrel War Memorials Trust Ltd on the site of the existing Memorial Hall, which will be demolished. Further details can be found on Charnwood's website www.charnwood.gov.uk.
