What to do in Edinburgh
Most of us would like to spend several days traveling in a new city. This allows us to immerse ourselves in the local culture. Unfortunately, not all journeys allow us to do this. If you are planning on visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow, you should consider taking advantage of this article to find out more about how to have an amazing experience even if you are late.
Breakfast
A good breakfast and a cup of coffee are some of the things that we recommend starting the day with in Edinburgh. Some of our favorite places to visit are The Haven Cafe, World of Mouth, and Grams. After a full day of exploring, take a walk through the Princes Street Gardens.
One of the most significant tributes to an author is Scott Monument, which you can visit and take amazing photos of the surroundings. Then, take a trip to the Scottish National Gallery to see the many exquisite exhibitions and artworks. You can also visit the Makar’s Court to read the inspiring quotes of Scotland’s most prominent writers.
One of Edinburgh’s most popular spots is the Royal Mile, which dates back to the ancient past. This narrow street features numerous curiosities. Another must-visit area is the Edinburgh Castle, as it houses a historical tour that will allow you to learn more about the city’s past.
Lunch time – happy time
You must be starving right now, so try some of the restaurants near the George IV Bridge. Some of these include the Elephant House, Angus Fling, and Divino Enoteca. After checking out the St. Giles Cathedral, head back to the Royal Mile and take a walk along the street until you reach Scotland’s Parliament Building. This beautiful structure can be viewed from the street.
Evening
The next thing is settling in, head back to the bridge and take a walk along Greyfriars Bobby. It has been said that the dog has been guarding the grave of its owner for 14 years.
After you’ve checked out the St. Giles Cathedral, head down the Royal Mile and past the Scottish Parliament building. This area offers a beautiful view of the city and its history.
Explore the city’s various attractions, head to the New Town to visit its many shops and get some gifts for your relatives and friends. There, you can enjoy a cocktail or a beer at one of the local pubs. Then, head to The Gardener’s Cottage for a great dinner. This restaurant serves up a variety of local food and is known for its amazing dishes.
One of the best views of Edinburgh’s sunset can be seen from Calton Hill. This area is perfect for a quick walk after a full dinner.
There are two ways to fully experience the city of Glasgow and Edinburgh. You can hire a taxi to Glasgow and have the driver recommend the best landmarks along the way. But, it’s much more convenient to rent a car and explore the area at your own pace. Here’s a list of some of the highlights of the route that you can take in a short time.
Situated in the beautiful town of Linlithgow, you can visit some of its notable landmarks, such as the St. Michael’s Parish Church and the Linlithgow Palace, which was the home of Mary Queen of Scots.
The town of Stirling is much larger and would typically take you all day to explore. Some of its most popular attractions include the Stirling Castle and the National Wallace Monument. It also has several important churches and art galleries.
When traveling between Glasgow and Edinburgh, it’s important to grab some food or stop at a gas station for some. However, the food at these establishments is not very good and may not be cheap.

Getting a coffee in the city center is a great way to start your day in the city. This area will allow you to get a taste of the local culture while getting ready for a full day of adventure. Some of our favorite places to eat are Jodandys, My Home Bakery, and Scran. You can also visit the City Centre Mural Trail to take a look at the various vibrant creations that can be found in the area.
After having a full belly, head to the West End of Glasgow and take the subway to Hillhead. This area is known for its cool neighborhoods. You’ll also find plenty of cafes and vintage shops around the station.
Glasgow has plenty of free things to do. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, you should visit the University of Glasgow’s main building, which was the location of the filming of the movie. If you’re in the city for a day, head to the Kelvingrove Park and take a look at one of its many art galleries.
Lunch time
After a tiring day, try to grab some food and replenish your energy at one of the many restaurants in the city center. You can start your walk back to the city center by taking the path along the Clyde. This walk will take around 40 minutes. You’ll be able to see some of Glasgow’s shipbuilding relics as you go through the area.

In the evening, head to The Lighthouse, which is the center for design and architecture in Glasgow, and visit the building that houses a collection of works by renowned architect and designer Charles Mackin.
